Apple's September Keynote presentation made big waves in the design and technology communities again this year. They made several new product announcements that have lit the Internet abuzz. Two new Apple products, Apple Pay and the Apple Watch, attracted a lot of attention while the day also marked the official announcement of the arrival of the Apple iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus which has been long anticipated by a lot of us Apple fans out there.
The new iPhone 6 is 4.7 inches tall whereas the iPhone 6 Plus is an even bigger model at 5.5 inches. Both are bigger than previous iPhones however, they are also thinner than any of the iPhones before it. At only 6.9mm for the iPhone 6 and 7.1mm for the iPhone 6 Plus, the iPhone still is the thinnest and most refined cell phone product on the market today. The iPhone 6’s come with a new Retina HD display and a 64-bit A8 chip that is supposed to give customers up to 25% faster processing time.
The most pronounced change in my opinion has to do with the iPhone 6 camera. For the first time, the camera lens actually protrudes from the iPhone shell. While this means nothing in and of itself, it marks a change that Apple realizes the importance of the camera to the iPhone and its end users. The new camera has a new sensor with Focus Pixel and some awesome new video features. You can now shoot 1080p videos at 30 fps and 60 fps with continuous auto-focus on the iPhone 6. You can also shoot slo-mo vids shoot at 120 and 240 fps and there is a time-lapse video mode. Great! Video is becoming more and more prevalent in our world today and the new iPhone 6 now makes taking videos better, faster and easier.
The new iPhone 6 models also offer faster WIFI connectivity as well as a broader WIFI reach making it easier to stay online and connected wherever you go. All iPhone 6’s will also be equipped with Touch ID technology. Touch ID technology is a new and revolutionary way to secure your iPhone where it can only be unlocked by your fingerprint. No more will you have to remember your password or worry about the security of your iPhone as only you will be able to able to approve purchases and conduct transactions with your own unique fingerprint ID.
The iPhone 6 starts at $199 for 16GB whereas the 6 Plus starts at $299. Both new iPhone 6 models are available now as pre-orders and they will be ready to ship on September 19.
