Editorial Beauties: Russian Children’s Illustrated Books

Design Editorial

There's an exhibition taking place in NY called "The Experimental Art of Russian Children’s Book" which features some pieces (contemporary and old) of impressive kids' books that are a precise example of Russian graphic design history. The illustrations and overall style are direct heirs of the ever-present soviet propaganda with also a big influence from the constructivism art movement.

The exhibition showcases original historic illustrated books from private collections as well as experimental graphic constructions that are quite impressive by the display of artistic talent, but also the age of the authors: 3 to 16 year old kids! All the pieces are a great source of inspiration for typographic work, a category in which Russian design never disappoints, specially considering how young their artists start creating!
