Sony Ericsson is suing wireless provider Clearwire for trademark infringement, claiming that Clearwire's green and white swirl logo is far too similar to the Ericsson's own logo. In a lawsuit filed in U.S. district court in Virginia last week, Sony Ericsson said that Clearwire's swirl logo will confuse customers.
Sony Ericsson has been using its logo since 2001. The company says that its trademark swirl is well recognized in Europe, but that in the U.S. where the Clearwire service and products are sold, that it's not as familiar to the market.
Sony Ericsson is requesting that the court stop Clearwire from infringing on Sony's trademark and copyright. They are also asking for at least $150,000 in damages as well as legal fees.
