Design Showcase - Movie Barcodes

March 07, 2011

Movie Barcode, a Tumblr blog, takes legendary full-length films and compresses them so small that they end up looking like colorful bar codes. Let's say you had the largest wide-screen display in the universe, and you stretched out the bar codes, well, then you would actually see the entire movie, frame by frame.

The Matrix

Requiem For A Dream

These abstract visual compressions also make for some beautiful and fascinating art, so its no surprise that you can order prints from the site too! Some of the films that have received the barcode treatment (so far) include Bambi, American Beauty, Slumdog Millionaire and Scarface, with new ones being added regularly.
