Editorial Beauties: The Where, The Why And The How

November 14, 2012

Graphic design has long trespassed the merely aesthetic world into different disciplines, same goes with art. Our current times are characterized by the interdisciplinary approach to any given subject, so it shouldn't come as a surprise that academic subjects can now be presented in artistic manners or from a graphic design point of view.

This is a book that reflects just this and it's going directly to my wishlist: The Where, The Why and The How is an edition published by Chronicle Books that showcases 75 mysteries of science in the most artistic way. Featuring work from contemporary artists in the most diverse styles, this book manages to fuse both scientific curiosity and artistic expression. Needless to say the result is a captivating read that will surely catch both children and adults' attention while educating using beautiful and clever illustrations.
Are earthquakes predictable?
What drives plate tectonics?

A science book like no other, The Where, the Why, and the How turns loose 75 of today’s hottest artists onto life’s vast questions, from how we got here to where we are going. Inside these pages some of the biggest (and smallest) mysteries of the natural world are explained in essays by real working scientists, which are then illustrated by artists given free rein to be as literal or as imaginative as they like. The result is a celebration of the wonder that inspires every new discovery.

Why are humans and chimps so different if they have nearly identical DNA?
What caused the extinction of Neanderthals?
How do cells talk to each other?

You can order the book on Amazon, just in time before the holidays!
