New Big 10 Logo Heavily Criticized

The Big Ten Conference recently revealed a new logo to be used for all sports beginning with the 2011-12 academic year. It was was developed by Michael Bierut and Michael Gericke of the international design firm Pentagram.

“Its contemporary collegiate lettering includes an embedded numeral ’10′ in the word ‘BIG,’ which allows fans to see ‘BIG’ and ’10′ in a single word,” said Michael Gericke in a statement. “Memorable and distinctive, the new logo evolved from the previous logo’s use of negative space and is built on the conference’s iconic name, without reference to the number of member institutions.”

Is the Rio 2016 Olympic Games Logo Plagiarized?

Within a day of it's unveiling, the new logo for the 2016 Brazil Olympic Games was under fire from critics, who said the logo was blatantly plagiarizing the logo of a US philanthropic organization.

According to Fred Gelli, creative director of Tatil agency, there are "similar elements" to a famous Henri Matisse painting, "The Dance," and a resemblance to the referenced logo of American non-profit, the Telluride Foundation.

The new design has done away with the words that for years have encircled the company's iconic Siren, and they've spruced up the lady herself. Why the decision to eliminate the words? Starbucks feels that they are one of the planet's most recognizable brands, so no longer needed to reinforce its name on every sign, cup, and coffee bean bag.
