The 2012 VW Beetle was unveiled today at events held at the same times in New York City and Shanghai. The newest Beetle has a much lower, slicker design than it's cartoon-ish, bubbly predecessors. Six inches longer, three inches wider and an inch lower than the last model, this redesign will also come with the option of a panoramic sunroof which reaches all the way from the windshield to the back window.

“The Beetle is now characterized by a clean, self-confident and dominant sportiness,” Volkswagen brand design chief Klaus Bischoff said. “The redesigned Beetle has a lower profile, is wider and has a longer front hood.”

The modern new 2012 Beetle will be in available this fall with a few options: a 2.5-liter five-cylinder gasoline engine, a 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine or a 2.0-liter diesel engine. No price has been listed yet.
