After running into the sea currents map, another version of time-lapse earth flows visualization has caught my attention. This time it's about Wind Map, a real-time visualization of the wind currents in the US. In their website they refer to the inspiration of this project as an invisible, ancient source of energy surrounds us—energy that powered the first explorations of the world, and that may be a key to the future. The importance of other kind of natural energy resources is constantly growing, and having a visualization tool like this one can help to comprehend the actual course of the wind.
Just as NASA's sea currents map version, the visual take on the maps has a delicate feel to it; the currents are shown as light strokes that vary accordingly to the intensity of the winds- darker for slower winds and lighter on the way up- and the complete overview looks like metal engraving. The interactive map allows you to zoom in the areas to see more in detail the current winds. You can also visit the gallery of previous dates and it's actually very curious to see the different variations of the US Wind map and the graphic results they give.
