Typographic Love: Retro Lettering

Design & Style

The typographic work for the History Channel created by Argentinian designer Santiago Wardak follows the steps of the already established retro-inspired trend. These 'Typographic ID's" are the letterings used for the show presentations and commercials and they resemble the old glass signs with its fancy yet minimal ornaments and combination of different typefaces (you can check out an outstanding example of this line of work here). Muted colors were chosen as a way to match the also vintage looking commercials, style that was probably chosen to reflect the history aspect of the History Channel. The old-school look is the source of inspiration for the delicate ornaments that also could fit in the hipster trend with the use of fixed-width strokes and very clean shapes. Beautiful work and great source of inspiration!
