Tim Yarzhombeck has had a personal exhibition at the Dom Club, and has taken part in several multi-artist exhibitions. Author of the well-known Hairwash and Simplefigures projects, Yarzhombeck has recently created a brilliant new font, and his entire alphabet uses bearded men as characters. We weren't able to find a download, but found this facial hair font too good to not write about!

Google Explains Chrome Logo Change

A week after the Chrome logo underwent it's facelift, designer Steve Rura explained on the Google Chrome Blog, that the change reflected the core meaning of Google’s web browser - ‘easy and clutter free’.

He went on to discuss the new ‘simpler’ icon, and how better captured the essence of Chrome. “Even before this effort, the new version of the Chrome logo was already being conjured up by Googlers and Chrome fans. Numerous creative reinterpretations have organically moved the icon towards simplicity and abstraction, so it felt right to make the icon structure cleaner and easier to recreate,” he said.

Helvetica - The Documentary Movie

Directed by Gary Hustwit, and released in 2007, Helvetica is a feature-length independent film about typography, graphic design and global visual culture. It looks at the proliferation of one typeface, the legendary Helvetica, as part of a bigger picture as to how type affects our culture. It also delves into the history of the sans serif typeface, which was developed in 1957 by Swiss graphic designer Max Miedinger.

Google Patents The Idea Of Cycling Logos

Industry News

Google is back in the news today for acquiring a U.S. patent for its changing logo system, something they call "Google Doodles." The patent was granted this week, after being in submission purgatory since 2001.

The patent goes by the name "Systems and Methods for Enticing Users to a Web Site." The description declares that the patent is for the invention of "periodically changing story line and/or special event company logo to entice users to access a web page."
