BMW recently unveiled the new brand for a line of BMW electric vehicles, and Adrian Van Hooydonk, design director for BMW, also revealed the brand direction for the new line, called BMW i.
One graphic element of the new design is an update to the existing BMW logo, when it is used in relationship with the new line. The logo now shows a three-dimensional blue ring, symbolizing electricity, circling the familiar BMW mark. Also part of the new design identity is a canted "i" cast in blue light from inside a metallic, three-dimensional case that will represent the new brand.
BMW i will release the first two models in 2013, with the names i3 and i8.
