Editorial News: A Perfume That Smells Like A New Book

Industry News

Book lovers of the world might know this perfectly: there's nothing better than a brand new book with its distinct smell. It could compare to the new-car smell that people seem to be so fond of, but a quality printed book has a very distinct scent that I'm sure other fellow book suckers know pretty well. This is known by legendary fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld, who suggested the idea of recreating it and that's how we got Paper Passion, a fragrance created by Geza Schoen, Gerhard Steidl, and Wallpaper* magazine that evokes the scent of fresh print.

This is an opportunity to celebrate all the gloriosensuality of books, at a time when many in the industry are turning against them. The idea is that is should relax you, like when you read a book, to a level of meditation and concentration. Paper Passion has evolved into something quite beautiful and unique. To wear the smell of a book is something very chic. Books are players in the intellectual world, but also in the world of luxury.

The packaging does not disappoint as it is shaped in the form of a book and contains texts from Karl Lagerfeld, Günter Grass, Geza Schoen and Tony Chambers. It was created by Steidl and Lagerfeld resulting in an exquisite container that perfectly embodies the sense of luxury that they want to portray. Now the question is, would you like to smell like a fresh new book?
