For years, I’ve had an abnormal obsession with lamps and everything lighting. I remember spending hours as a child with my dad, my eyes twinkling in amazement as we spent our weekends wandering around these massive lighting warehouses and vintage stores in my neighbourhood. What I didn’t know then was that my father’s obsession would soon become my own. Years later, long after leaving the sanctuary of my father’s home, my heart still flutters every time I drive past a vintage lighting store or walk briskly past a massive storefront lighting display on my way to work.
This week, as I habitually scoured the Internet, I came across these pretty amazing lamp collections.
The Moooi Lighting Collection
Moooi is a dutch company that creates all sorts of impressive contemporary furniture and housing accessories including of course, gorgeous lighting. Moooi, meaning beautiful in dutch except for the addition of an extra ‘o’ in its name, also has designs from many international designers. The lamps by Moooi will absolutely blow your mind. They are unique, masterful designs that bridge everyday functionality with extreme creativity and innovation.
Here are two examples of how Moooi is working to make our lives more beautiful:
Raimond Lamp
This masterpiece is made up of a series of stainless steal triangles joined by LED terminals. An electric current runs through the lamp’s stainless steal frame lighting up every corner of your room.
Emperor Lamp
These Emperor lamps are breathtaking. Designed by Neri & Hu, each emperor lamp is hand woven with bamboo rattan. I would love to have one of these pieces hanging in my living room.
The Clover Lamp Collection
The clover lamp is a collection of lamps created by the Spanish designer Alberto Sánchez of MUT Design. These absolutely fabulous lamps were introduced at the 2010 Salone Satellite show in Milan. Although at first glance these lamps might not appear to be anything out of the ordinary, take a closer look. Each of these lamps are carefully woven with lengths of coloured string that, when lit up, cast striking and intriguing shadows around the room. Each clover lamp is positively dazzling and can be customized to match your personal colour taste.
