Typographic Love: Letman [image heavy]

Design & Style Design Editorial

Letman is the alias used by Job Wouters, Amsterdam based artist and typographer whose work is pretty brilliant. He has a passion for letters and illustration and because of his very distinct style he just got his first monograph published by Gestalt. It had been a while since I've been so impressed by an artist's work, and Letman is definitely the man to check out. As a review of him says: He not only creates masterful decorative letters and typefaces, but also pioneers work that is a hybrid of graphic design, screen printing, graffiti, illustration, and painting.

Needless to say his work is highly original and his use of colors for the letterings is really brilliant. You can tell he absolutely masters the skills of a calligrapher and has a pretty solid base in illustration too, making his pieces real works of art. His typographic compositions have been featured in work for clients including Audi, Heineken, Tommy Hilfiger, various editorial work and even collaborated with fashion designer Dries Van Noten for one of his collections. Make sure to check out his portfolio for some great inspiration; I know I'll be in the lookout for his book!
